Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do.
Our volunteers help us get out and about in the community, listening to people to find out if health and care is working for them.
Whether you want to gain valuable work experience, help improve care in your community or learn new skills, there are lots of ways you can join us to make a real difference.
From speaking to local people to find out what they think about health and care, to using these views to influence those who run services, volunteers play an important role at Healthwatch.
Having advocated on behalf of a non-verbal family member for many years, I understand the power of having your voice heard in receiving the care that you need. I want to ensure all people have a voice and I felt that volunteering with Healthwatch gave me that opportunity.
Why volunteer with Healthwatch?
- Make a difference in your local community, by giving people the opportunity to speak up about their health and social care experiences.
- Help you develop new skills, gain work experience and build your confidence, through new opportunities.
- Learn more about the people who live and work in Rotherham, and the health and social care services in our area.
- Use your existing skills to support and strengthen our team, helping us to make more of a difference.
- Feel valued and supported by our friendly team of staff and volunteers.
Read our volunteer stories
During February and March 2024, we were joined by two University of Sheffield students, Olivia and Holly.
They were a fantastic addition to our team and spent their time carrying out vital research for us as well as attending engagement events with our Community and Engagements officer, Andrea.
Their placement allowed them to delve further into areas that interested them, whilst supporting Healthwatch Rotherham's work and helped them to develop their confidence and skills.

What type of volunteer roles are there?
We have two types of volunteer roles available with us:
Volunteer Outreach, Information and Signposting Officers
As a Volunteer Outreach, Information and Signposting officer you could attend engagement events, talking to people about Healthwatch and getting them to share their experiences of health and social care services; carry out surveys; signpost people to reliable and trustworthy information; inspire us with new ideas to reach out to different communities or contribute to existing projects we are focusing on.
Volunteer Strategic Advisory Board Member
As a Volunteer Strategic Advisory Board Member you would bring with you previous skills, abilities, knowledge and experience that will help set the strategic direction of Healthwatch Rotherham, making sure our vision, aims and values are upheld and helping us to deliver an effective service in line with current legislation.
Volunteering at Healthwatch fits in well with my current job role, helping me to spread the word and ensure we are all doing our bit to encourage good mental health.
