Let's Talk...Long Covid

On Wednesday 15th November, Healthwatch Rotherham and Rehana Hussain from the RDASH Long Covid Team, spoke to 20 people at the Unity Centre about Long Covid. The session was split into two 10 minute sessions (men and women) and was given in Urdu.

Rehana Hussain, a Principal Applied Psychologist (RDASH Long Covid Team) was our guest speaker today and delivered the two sessions to 6 men and 14 women from the Kashmiri and Yemini Group in Rotherham in Urdu. 

Topics covered in the session:

  • What is Long COVID and the symptoms of Long COVID

If COVID-19 symptoms lasts for weeks or months after being infected; this could be classified as long COVID. Symptoms might vary from person-person but includes extreme tiredness (fatigue), feeling short of breath, loss of smell, muscle aches, problems with your memory and concentration ("brain fog"), chest pain or tightness, difficulty sleeping (insomnia), heart palpitations, dizziness, pins and needles, joint pain, depression and anxiety, tinnitus, earaches, feeling sick, diarrhea, stomach aches, loss of appetite, a high temperature, cough, headaches, sore throat, changes to sense of smell or taste and rashes.

 

  • How to seek medical care if the symptoms continues

If you've had symptoms of COVID-19 for 4 weeks or more and are worried, speak to your GP for further advice. The GP will talk to you about the care and support you might need.

 

  • What are the services provided for people with Long-Covid?

The long COVID services includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, speech and language therapists, psychologists, assistant practitioners, and social prescribers.

 

People can also access an education group with peer support, an exercise group with peer support, and one-on-one tailored exercise and treatment programs. To access these services, you need to speak to GP to check eligibility and referral

  • People need to keep themselves well, both physically and mentally, through healthy eating, adequate physical exercise, and routine health checks.
