Let's Talk...Suicide Awareness September 2022 - event write-up
After the success of our last suicide awareness event in September 2021, we decided to run it again to raise awareness of the invaluable local and national services available for those suffering with mental health issues, particularly suicidal thoughts.
We were joined by 14 guests, including attendees from Macmillan Cancer Support, Citizens Advice Rotherham, Rotherham’s local MP’s office and Sheffield’s ‘Free to be You’ counselling/art therapy organisation.
We were first joined by Ruth Fletcher Brown, who was discussing the ‘Be the One’ campaign in Rotherham.
Ruth Fletcher Brown - Be the one campaign
‘Talk Listen Care’ approach to suicide prevention:
Talk:
Don’t be afraid to ask someone if they’re okay
Listen:
Help someone to feel less alone
Care:
Support is available for anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts
Resources: Posters, leaflets and contact cards are available to support the ‘Be the One’ campaign. Please contact Healthwatch Rotherham if you are interested in displaying any of these resources in your services and organisations and we can arrange for Ruth to send these resources to you.
You can also find more information on the Be the One website, such as warning signs of suicide, how to get help and a toolkit of resources.
You can also follow the campaign on both Facebook and Twitter, to stay in the loop with the latest news, events and campaigns.

Andy’s Man Club is a group where men aged 18 and above can speak openly about their mental health in a judgment-free, non-clinical environment. Groups now operate nationwide and are completely volunteer-led, with the vast majority of group facilitators having first interacted with ANDYSMANCLUB when they came through the door as a service user.
