A huge thank you to all our guest speakers and attendees for attending our November Let's Talk event, this month focusing on Care Homes and Home Care

Our November ‘Let’s Talk’ event discussed Care Homes and Home Care. We had 15 attendees, with a mixture of members of the public as well as professionals. 

Our first guest speaker was Nigel Bonser, from Citizens Advice Rotherham.

Nigel Bonser - Citizens Advice Rotherham:

Nigel discussed benefits, what benefits you can claim, as well as what existing benefits you can keep when entering a care home or receiving home care.

Barbara Booton - Active Independence/ Rotherham Older People’s Forum:

Discussed direct payments, advantages and disadvantages of direct payments and useful resources. This information can be found on the slides below.

Michelle Stevens - Kinetic Nursing Services

Kinetic Nursing Services are a Community Care Provider who provide domiciliary care to residents. The service covers a number of issues including brain injuries, stroke, dementia and cancer. The service tries to give people as much independence as possible, whilst developing relationships and building trust with service users. 

Michelle discussed the difficulties with Covid-19 and wearing full PPE when working with service users, as well as the cost of living crisis and how this affects amenities such as petrol.

Jayne Lowe - Rotherham Hospice

Jayne discussed Rotherham Hospice, her role and the different teams and units that operate within the Hospice. You can view her presentation slides below for more information.

Hannah Dutton - The Purple Butterfly Service

The Purple Butterfly Service helps raise awareness about the importance of providing compassionate and specialist end of life care. The appeal was also set up to raise money to fund Purple Butterfly rooms, which provide privacy, dignity, space and a home-from-home for people nearing the end of their lives, their families, friends and carers at Rotherham Hospital.

Jules and Chris - Broadacres Care Home:

Jules and Chris spoke about Broadacres care home and the service it provides to residents. The care home focuses on the way they make residents feel as independent as possible, by offering a self service buffet in one of their dining rooms. They spoke about different activities the residents are involved with and the difficulties carers face when deciding to put their loved one in a care home.
