Why public toilets matter for our health: Rotherham Town Centre

Here at Healthwatch Rotherham we understand that public toilets play an important role in keeping people healthy, safe, and able to fully take part in everyday life. Access to clean and accessible toilets helps prevent health problems caused by delaying toilet use, supports good hygiene, and makes town centres more welcoming for everyone.

We have put a map of all the current Public Toilets within Rotherham Town Centre.

The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) has today published new research showing that there are 15,481 people for every public toilet in England.

Previous RSPH research has shown that there are a host of knock-on effects that are caused by a lack of public toilets. Its 2019 report, Taking the P*ss, showed that one in five people leave home less often than they would like and half of people restrict their fluid intake, risking dehydration.
